Desert Doodle Scrap Series (2024)
fabric scraps, canvas scraps, paint pen, sewing thread, thrifted mini canvases, staples
This mini-series was inspired by the desert/western-vibed tattoos of the incredible @bkjdesign
Bella was asking for 3 mini-sized pieces and I had a bunch of 4” x6” canvases and a bin of fabric + canvas scrap that I wanted to find a new way to use. I sewed together the patches of fabric to cover the frames and added extra decorative weave stitches through the fabric for texture. I painted my doodles on the canvas and then cut them out before sewing them to the fabric. I made sure to use stars in every doodle to create cohesion because Bella uses star imagery frequently in her work. Finally, I used my stapler to fasten it to the frame.
It’s my favorite thing to make art for my friends. It makes me happy to create with a space and person in mind….i for sure have some inspiration/new spark from this project so I plan to keep playing and experimenting with these scrap pieces!
